Middlesex Hospital has opened its first specialty pharmacy in collaboration with Boston-based Clearway Health, with the goal of improving access to complex medications and lower costs for patients in central Connecticut.
Hospital leaders and Clearway Health officials marked the grand opening Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the new 1,867-square-foot pharmacy, located on the lower level of the Middlesex Health Cancer Center at 536 Saybrook Road in Middletown. The facility opened to patients Wednesday and will operate weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The specialty pharmacy will serve patients across Middlesex County and the Connecticut shoreline, providing access to medications for chronic and complex health conditions, officials said.
Middlesex Hospital, based in Middletown, already offers pharmacy services for hospital patients; the new location extends those services to outpatients and offers retail pharmacy options for residents affected by recent pharmacy closures in the region.
Services include specialized education and clinical support, medication adherence programs, refill reminders, co-pay assistance, prior authorization help and home delivery.
“This new specialty pharmacy will reduce financial burden and improve the patient experience,” said Vincent G. Capece Jr., president and CEO of Middlesex Health.
