Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago said Tuesday it will collaborate with Boston-based Clearway Health on its proposed outpatient specialty pharmacy in Schaumburg.
The site, set to open later next year at the Lurie Children’s Outpatient and Infusion Center, will dispense specialty pharmaceuticals for patients with complex medical conditions.
The site will include prescription processing and fulfillment, medication packaging and shipping and loading and receiving. It will also include space for patients to pick up medication, with a reception, waiting and a consultation room.
“Building a specialty pharmacy in partnership with Clearway Health simplifies what can often be a complex, costly, and time-consuming process for patients and their families who already face a challenging time, and ensures they receive their medications on time and with the right support and care needed along the way,” said Lurie Children’s CEO Dr. Tom Shanley.
Skilled specialty pharmacy patient liaisons will be embedded with care teams in clinical practices across Lurie Children’s, including those that treat pulmonary, cystic fibrosis, rheumatology, neurology, infectious disease, hematology and oncology.
The provider has asked the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board to approve the plan. The board will consider the application at its May meeting.
